Hakone. The Other Side of the Rising Sun

How Japanese people relax in their best onsen

Onsen is the Japanese word for hot spring, and indicates also the bathing facilities around the spring itself. Onsen have been frequented and loved for centuries and, due to its volcanic origin, there are lot of them evrywhere in the country. Japanese people are used to enter naked into the onsen, as a way to show themselves to other people ready to relax and ‘with nothing to hide’.

When it comes to name the best onsen resorts, Hakone is always on the list. Its location near Tokyo, the wonderful views on mount Fuji, the geysers, the lake and the temples, the museums and the several promenades along old imperial roads, make Hakone a favourite destination to spend a few days in relaxing, cleaning both body and spirit while bathing in thermal water.
