KAKUMA, NOWHERE ON EARTH. In the extreme north of Kenya, not far from the South Sudanese border, is a hot, dusty and waterless place called nowhere. Or Kakuma, as it translates in the local Turkana language. Since 1992, Kakuma is the place that the Kenya
Kakuma refugee camp, Kenya. People carry food supplies (on a motorbike, right) near one of the camp’s food distribution point close to the Ethiopian community market. Local Turkana women (in the foreground) are sometimes hired as porters by Somali and Ethiopian refugees to take their food supplies home.
