A follower of the Layene Sufi brotherhood in a sea grotto in Les Almadies, Dakar. The Layene believe that their founder Seydina Limamou Laye (1843–1909) was the Mahdi, the reincarnation of the prophet Muhammad. They say that the light of the prophet lived in the Holy Grotto in Les Almadies for a 1000 years, before it revealed itself in the person of Limmamou Laye. Further The Layene claim that from this Holy Grotto in Africa, the light of their founder continues to travel around the world every night in order to reform the islamic religion to return it to its original meaning – Islam translates as ‘calmness’ or ‘peace’.
