Italy – Arsenale, the secret Venice

Venice (Italy), in the eastern part of the Arsenale between the building of the Squadratori (left), once used for cutting and treating the wood for the ships, a stone staircase serves as a stand for Dandolo submarine, launched in 1967 and on display at the Arsenale since 2002. In the background is the bell tower of the church of San Francesco della Vigna (16th century), an opening in the latter overlooking the Arsenale was later closed in order to protect the site from prying eyes.
